Mini Story or Hook:
Step aboard the SS Orcades, one of the grand passenger liners of the post-war era. This authentic vintage suitcase travelled on the great sea routes of the mid-20th century, a time when ocean liners carried migrants, tourists, and business travellers between the UK and Australia. With its original cabin labels and well-earned wear, it’s a tangible piece of that remarkable era. Whether styled in a vintage home, used in a period production, or collected for its nostalgic charm, this is luggage with a story to tell.

About the Ship – SS Orcades
The SS Orcades was launched in 1947 for the Orient Line and became one of the most recognisable ocean liners on the UK–Australia route. With elegant art deco interiors and a reputation for comfort, she served both tourists and post-war migrants during the height of the “Ten Pound Pom” era.
In 1960, following the merger of P&O and Orient Line, the ship was jointly operated under the name P&O-Orient Lines. She continued operating regular line voyages via the Suez Canal, calling at ports such as Naples, Colombo, Bombay, Fremantle, Melbourne and Sydney. The Orcades was eventually retired and scrapped in 1973, making this suitcase a genuine relic from the golden age of sea travel.
