Mini Story / Description
This authentic PMG-issued Bakelite desk phone dates from 1951/52, when the Postmaster-General’s Department controlled all Australian telephone services.
The 300 Series phones were built under licence by STC, AWA and Ericsson, based on a British design but produced locally for Australian homes and businesses. This example features the numeric-only rotary dial, marking the transition from named exchanges to all-number dialing in the early 1950s.
With its solid Bakelite casing, weighty handset and classic rotary dial, it’s a genuine piece of post-war Australian history and a functional design icon for collectors, decorators and vintage enthusiasts alike.
