Mini Story or Hook

Puppy Love by Louis Shabner is a wonderfully nostalgic example of the sentimental portraiture that became enormously popular during the 1960s and 1970s.

The composition depicts a striking blue-eyed young girl affectionately cuddling her puppy, her vivid red sleeves contrasting beautifully against the atmospheric blue-grey and turquoise background.

Louis Shabner is particularly associated with appealing portraits of women and children, characterised by expressive eyes, soft features and atmospheric backgrounds. His work fits perfectly within the distinctive big-eyed art aesthetic that became such an iconic part of mid-century and 1970s popular décor.

Retaining its vintage timber frame, Puppy Love is a charming piece of nostalgic wall art that would suit a retro interior, eclectic gallery wall or collection of vintage sentimental art.
