Mini Story or Hook

A spectacular survivor of late Mid-Century design, this striking five-piece dining setting was acquired as a complete set, comprising a labelled Dimensional Plastics Corp. Glamourama table together with its four orange vinyl swivel chairs.

The centrepiece is the extraordinary cream cast-resin tabletop. Rather than a printed floral pattern, genuine botanical leaves have been encapsulated within the resin itself, arranged in a wonderful orange-red band around the perimeter. The leaves appear consistent with sumac or a similar pinnate-leaved plant, although the exact botanical species has not been confirmed.

The table is just as interesting beneath the top. Its substantial sculptural base combines angled timber supports with a decorative chrome centre column and cast-metal four-star foot—a fantastic combination of natural and industrial materials characteristic of the period.

The four high-backed orange vinyl swivel chairs came with the table as part of the complete dining setting. Their vivid orange upholstery, cream metal bases and sculptural form work beautifully with the botanical colouring of the tabletop, creating a wonderfully cohesive 1960s–70s ensemble.

Importantly, the table retains its original Dimensional Plastics Corp. manufacturer’s label, providing a firm attribution for the table rather than it being another anonymous piece of vintage resin furniture.

Condition

Condition: Very Good Vintage Condition – see detailed notes below.

The complete setting has been carefully cleaned and refreshed by Vintage HQ while deliberately retaining its original patina and character.

Our approach has been conservation rather than restoration—we have cleaned and presented the pieces while retaining the original materials, finishes and age-related character that make genuine vintage furniture special.

* Original cast-resin tabletop presents particularly well.

* Genuine botanical material remains clearly visible encapsulated within the resin.

* Resin retains its attractive cream colouring with contrasting orange-red leaf decoration.

* Original Dimensional Plastics Corp. / Glamourama label remains attached beneath the tabletop.

* Sculptural timber components have been carefully cleaned while retaining their original finish and patina.

* Timber displays the warmth, variation and character expected of a genuine period piece.

* Chrome and cast-metal components have been cleaned while retaining minor age-related marks and patina.

* Four orange vinyl swivel chairs have been carefully cleaned and present very well.

* Original vinyl has been retained and displays normal vintage patina and minor signs of use.

* Cream-painted metal chair bases retain age-related marks, wear and patina consistent with their age.

* Swivel mechanisms are present and operating.

* No attempt has been made to over-restore or refinish the setting.

* The four chairs came with the table as part of the complete dining setting. No separate manufacturer’s labels have been located on the chairs, so while their association with the set is known, we do not independently attribute their manufacture to Dimensional Plastics Corp.

Overall, this is a wonderfully preserved vintage dining setting that retains the visual character and patina expected of furniture approximately half a century old.

About Dimensional Plastics Corp. & Glamourama

Dimensional Plastics Corp. was an American manufacturer based in Hialeah, Florida, producing decorative cast and laminated plastic products during the Mid-Century period.

Its furniture-related production included cast-laminated table tops and other decorative furniture components. The Glamourama name was associated with seamless decorative table tops incorporating decorative materials within the plastic itself.

This table is a particularly striking example, with real botanical material encapsulated within the resin and combined with a substantial timber, chrome and cast-metal base.

The surviving manufacturer’s label beneath the table is an important feature and provides attribution to Dimensional Plastics Corp.
