Mini Story or Hook

A wonderfully characterful antique hammered copper coal box dating from the Arts & Crafts period, retaining the rich, mellow patina that can only develop through generations of use.

Originally designed to sit beside the fireplace, this substantial box combines decorative craftsmanship with practical Edwardian-era design. The hammered copper exterior features visible riveted construction, a hinged lid and unusual decorative paw-style feet.

Importantly, it retains its removable metal inner coal liner, complete with lifting handles. The liner allowed coal to be carried and emptied while protecting the decorative outer box — a great surviving feature of this piece.

With its warm aged copper surface and beautifully honest signs of use, it would make a striking addition to an Arts & Crafts, Federation, Edwardian or period interior. It remains suitable as a traditional fireside coal or kindling box, or could be repurposed for magazines, blankets or decorative storage.
