Mini Story or Hook

A striking interwar English pottery vase featuring a panoramic harbour scene populated with fishermen, small boats and sailing vessels. The graphic black silhouettes contrast beautifully against the blue water and rich golden-orange lustre glaze, giving the piece a distinctive Art Deco character.

Produced by Lancaster & Sons of Hanley, Staffordshire, this colourful vase is characteristic of the firm’s decorative lustreware from the 1920s and 1930s. Similar examples were decorated with continuous narrative scenes featuring fishermen, boats, coastal landscapes and Oriental-inspired figures.

This is a genuine vintage Lancaster & Sons pottery vase.

* Presents attractively with strong colours and a glossy lustre finish.

* The continuous harbour decoration remains clear and visually appealing.

* The printed Lancaster & Sons, Hanley, England backstamp is considerably faded but remains identifiable.

* Painted decorator’s or production marks are also present beneath the base.

* There is glaze wear and chipping or fritting around the upper rim.

* Further glaze loss, small chips and wear are visible around the shaped foot rim.

* Minor surface marks, glaze irregularities and general wear are present consistent with age.

* No major structural crack or repair is apparent from the photographs.
