Mini Story or Hook

A striking mid-Victorian porcelain tazza or pedestal comport, beautifully decorated with a romantic landscape and an exceptionally elaborate turquoise-blue pierced border.

The centre features a finely rendered waterside landscape with distant mountains and architecture, surrounded by delicate gilt detailing. The pierced turquoise rim is echoed in the ornate pedestal below, which terminates in three scrolling feet.

The form, turquoise decoration, pierced border, gilding and elaborate moulding are reminiscent of mid-19th-century Minton decorative porcelain, and Minton is considered a possible attribution. However, no factory mark has been identified and the piece is therefore being offered as possibly Minton rather than definitively attributed.

At approximately 23 cm across and weighing around 645 grams, it has substantial presence and would make an impressive addition to a collection of Victorian porcelain, Staffordshire ceramics or decorative Minton wares.
