Mini Story or Hook:

A delightful little piece of Victorian decorative glass featuring one of the era’s most charming subjects – a winged Cupid or cherub surrounded by delicate flowering branches.

The softly opaque cream glass is beautifully translucent when held to the light, producing a warm glowing appearance. The decoration combines finely painted details with raised white enamel flowers, while dark gilt/bronze-toned bands around the rim, neck and base provide an elegant finishing touch.

Commonly described as Bristol glass, this style of opaque decorative glass became particularly popular during the Victorian period. Cherubs, flowers and romantic classical subjects were favourite decorative motifs and examples such as this make wonderful small cabinet pieces today.

At only approximately 14 cm (5.5 inches) high, this is an especially attractive little bud vase and a lovely addition to a collection of Victorian glass, Bristol glass or antique decorative arts.

Condition:

Condition: Very Good antique condition – see detailed notes below.

This is an antique glass vase dating from the late 19th century:

• Glass appears free from major chips or cracks.

• Cupid / cherub decoration remains clear and attractive.

• Raised white enamel flowers retain good definition.

• Some minor age-related wear to the painted and gilt/bronze-toned decoration is present, consistent with age.

• Cream glass retains its attractive translucent quality.

• Base is unmarked.

• Presents extremely well for a piece potentially around 125–140 years old.

As with all antique hand-finished glass, minor variations and imperfections from manufacture and age should be expected and form part of the character of the piece.
