A wonderful matched collection of four miniature Australian oil paintings signed Atkins, capturing distinctive landmarks and landscapes across Victoria and Tasmania.

Believed to date from the mid-20th century, likely c.1950s–1960s, the collection takes us on a miniature journey through Australia: from historic Port Arthur and Ben Hall’s Lookout in Launceston to rural Warrawong Farm at Brankholme and Melbourne’s magnificent Exhibition Building.

Despite measuring only approximately 12 x 15.5 cm overall, each painting contains an impressive amount of detail. Architecture, native vegetation, rocky escarpments, distant landscapes and atmospheric skies have been rendered with expressive brushwork and carefully applied highlights.

The presentation is particularly appealing. All four works are housed in matching gilt shadow box frames with deep green velvet-lined surrounds, giving the collection a distinctive mid-century appearance and considerable decorative impact when displayed together.

Each work is individually signed Atkins, while handwritten labels retained on the reverse identify all four locations.
