About:
Produced in 1999 to mark the centenary of the Bendigo Rowing Club, this commemorative mug celebrates 100 years of one of regional Victoria’s oldest sporting institutions. The club, founded in 1872 during Bendigo’s post–gold rush era, has long been a cornerstone of local sporting and social life.
Made locally by Bendigo Pottery using their iconic cobalt blue glaze, this piece reflects the strong connection between Bendigo’s manufacturing heritage and its community clubs.
This mug was thrown and finished by an experienced Bendigo Pottery production potter, using forms that would have been typical of late 20th-century commemorative wares and the company itself. While not individually signed, it represents the skilled craftsmanship of Bendigo Pottery’s trades-based production team, with hand-attached handle and characteristic glaze pooling at the shoulder and rim.
This piece serves as a wonderful crossover collectible for Australian pottery enthusiasts, rowing memorabilia collectors, or lovers of regional history, and can both decorate and pair with any collection or environment.
