A Rare Example of German Art Nouveau Craftsmanship
Vintage HQ is pleased to offer this exceptional WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) Kunst-Anstalt Geislingen relief plaque, designed by noted German sculptor Hermann Schievelkamp (1863–1936) and dating to the height of the Jugendstil movement, circa 1895–1910.
Beautifully executed, the plaque depicts four cherubic children seated amongst tree branches, displaying the flowing forms and romanticism characteristic of German Art Nouveau. The front bears the sculptor’s signature, while the reverse retains the impressed “KUNSTANSTALT WMF GEISLINGEN ST.” mark, confirming production by the artistic division of WMF in Geislingen an der Steige, Germany.
Combining sculpture, decorative art and architectural elegance, this is a highly decorative and increasingly difficult-to-find piece from one of Germany’s most renowned manufacturers.
