Mini Story or Hook

A beautifully atmospheric original Australian landscape by D. J. Boyd, depicting a quiet river or billabong surrounded by towering eucalyptus trees, golden grasses and distant blue-purple ranges.

Boyd uses a particularly appealing palette here, with the cool blues and greens of the water and distant landscape contrasted against warm ochre and golden tones in the foreground. Reflections across the still water add depth to this quintessentially Australian scene.

D. J. Boyd is represented in the Australian Art Sales Digest (AASD), which records Australian secondary-market art sales, providing useful market recognition for the artist.

The reverse retains an interesting original typed instruction label advising the purchaser to apply Damar varnish approximately 12 months after purchase. This is a wonderful surviving piece of the painting’s history and is consistent with it having originally been sold as a newly completed oil painting.

A very attractive smaller-format Australian oil that displays beautifully in its vintage frame.

This is an original vintage oil painting.

* Painting presents very well overall with strong colour and attractive visible brushwork.

* Clearly signed “D J Boyd” at lower right.

* Original vintage Damar varnish instruction label remains attached to the reverse.

* Vintage frame has age-related marks, scratches, rubbing and general wear, particularly around the outer gold-tone moulding.

* Rear backing shows age-related wear and deterioration consistent with the age of the piece.

* Artwork has not been removed from its frame by us.

* No obvious major damage to the painted surface noted from our inspection.

* Display easel shown in photographs is not included.
