Mini Story or Hook
A wonderfully sculptural piece of Australian mid-century design by Dario Zoureff, dating from approximately the 1960s.
With its dramatic kidney-shaped form, sweeping central depression and tapered splayed timber legs, the footstool embodies the organic lines and expressive forms associated with Australian post-war modernist furniture.
Of particular importance is its known provenance. This footstool came from the same original household collection as our Dario Zoureff chair. The original owner’s father commissioned Zoureff to furnish the family home during the mid-1960s, providing a direct historical connection between the piece and the designer.
The footstool has since undergone a sympathetic restoration, bringing it back to a highly presentable and usable condition while retaining important evidence of its original construction.

Provenance & Original Textile Lining
An especially interesting feature is the survival of the original underside textile lining.
During restoration, the deteriorated underside covering was carefully removed and replaced. Rather than discarding the original material, it was retained and is now preserved separately in a protective bag. It will accompany the footstool to its future owner.
The original material retains a faded circular manufacturer’s stamp incorporating the words “TEXTILE MILL”. The mill name beneath appears to end in “HELUM”, although the complete name has not yet been conclusively identified.
We have deliberately not attributed the stamp to a particular textile manufacturer without further evidence.
This surviving original material provides an unusual tangible record of the footstool’s original construction and is a valuable addition to its documented provenance.
