Dario Zoureff Mid-Century Queen Bedhead with Integrated Bedside Cabinets

A striking Australian mid-century queen-size bedhead attributed to acclaimed Melbourne furniture and interior designer Dario Zoureff, dating from approximately the 1950s–60s.

The sculptural design features a warm golden timber finish, beautifully curved upper edges and two integrated bedside cabinets. Each cabinet incorporates an open shelf, drawer and lower cupboard, complemented by distinctive original metal handles and elegant tapered legs with metal feet.

The generous central panel is designed to accommodate a standard queen-size mattress, creating a complete and highly architectural bedroom setting. This is an exceptionally difficult-to-find example of Australian postwar furniture design.

About Dario Zoureff

Dario Zoureff was an influential Melbourne-based furniture and interior designer whose career spanned almost 50 years. After studying interior design at the Royal Melbourne Technical College, now RMIT, he worked as a furniture designer and manufacturer of custom-built furniture with Zoureff Pty Ltd. He established his own design practice in 1966 and became particularly known for distinctive, individually commissioned interiors and furniture.

Zoureff joined the Design Institute of Australia in 1958, served on its Victorian State Council and was made a Fellow of the Institute in 1990 in recognition of his contribution to the design profession. The bedhead has been carefully refurbished while retaining its original character and hardware.

Condition

Good restored vintage condition. This piece retains visible marks, surface variations, discolouration and other signs of age and previous use.
