Mini Story or Hook:

A unique contemporary artwork by local artist Deb Pollock, created in 2025 by giving a damaged vintage ballerina sculpture an entirely new life.

Pollock has taken the surviving elements of an older spelter ballerina and reinterpreted them into this wonderfully expressive figure, mounting the sculpture on a contrasting piece of Italian marble.

Rather than attempting to disguise the ballerina’s past, the work embraces it. The exaggerated pose, elongated limbs and irregularities of the original damaged figure become part of the new composition, creating a dancer that feels full of movement, character and individuality.

It is a great example of creative repurposing — an object that may otherwise have been discarded transformed into a distinctive piece of contemporary sculptural art.

Created by Deb Pollock in 2025, this is a one-off piece rather than a commercially manufactured sculpture in its present form.

Condition:

Condition: Very good as a repurposed contemporary artwork – see detailed notes below.

This artwork was deliberately created using a damaged vintage spelter ballerina figure and therefore retains age, wear, patination, irregularities and evidence of its former life.

These characteristics form part of the artist’s 2025 reinterpretation and should not be considered defects in the completed artwork.

The sculpture has been mounted onto an Italian marble base and presents as a striking freestanding decorative piece.
