Mini Story or Hook

A wonderfully evocative Australian pastoral landscape by Don Hunter, capturing a quiet rural scene of grazing sheep surrounding an old weatherboard cottage, set amongst rolling green hills and mature native trees.

The weathered cottage with its rust-red corrugated iron roof provides the focal point, while the darker wooded valley and softly rendered distant hills give the work considerable depth. It is a quintessentially Australian country scene and has a particularly warm, nostalgic character.

The painting is signed Don Hunter at lower right and retains an old Leete Galleries, Mount Waverley framer’s stamp to the reverse – a nice piece of Melbourne framing history in its own right.
