Large Vintage Czech Art Glass Freeform Bowl – Smoky Blue & White, Mid-Late 20th Century

Sculptural, substantial and wonderfully tactile, this large hand-worked art glass bowl is as much an object of design as it is a functional vessel.

The broad asymmetric form is created in transparent smoky blue-grey glass, with hundreds of opaque white glass inclusions concentrated through the base. Fine concentric trails visible within the glass add another layer of movement and texture as light passes through the piece.

Its construction and decorative techniques are strongly reminiscent of post-war Czechoslovak art glass, including work produced by the Škrdlovice glassworks, although we have not established a specific designer or pattern and therefore offer it without a firm factory attribution.

At more than 2.2 kg, this is an impressive piece of glass with considerable presence. Display it empty as a sculptural centrepiece or use it as a dramatic bowl on a dining table, sideboard or coffee table.
