Large Vintage Hand-Blown Art Glass Cuffed Vase – Aubergine, Black & White, c.1960s–70s

Bold, sculptural and unmistakably handmade, this striking vintage art-glass vase combines a dramatic elongated form with an extraordinary free-formed cuffed rim.

The vase has a deep aubergine-black exterior scattered with irregular opaque white glass decoration, contrasting beautifully with its milky white interior. Its upper section has been manipulated while hot to create the dramatic multi-lobed, handkerchief-like mouth, ensuring that no two views of the vase are quite the same.

The underside provides further evidence of its handmade construction, with a visible pontil area surrounded by individually worked clear-glass applications forming a decorative foot.

Its combination of cased glass, applied decoration, free-form rim and hot-worked base is consistent with mid-century European studio art glass. Italian and particularly Venetian/Murano manufacture is a possibility; however, without a surviving label, signature or confirmed pattern attribution, Vintage HQ has deliberately chosen not to attribute the vase to a particular glassworks.

Standing an impressive 32 cm tall, this is a genuine statement piece—equally at home in a Mid-Century Modern interior or displayed as a sculptural object in a contemporary setting.
