Mini Story or Hook

A beautifully executed original Australian landscape depicting the Ovens River at Myrtleford in Victoria’s High Country, signed lower right with a signature that appears to read M Davies.

This is a particularly accomplished regional landscape, with the artist using the river to draw the eye through stands of native gums towards the softly rendered hills beyond. Confident brushwork, textured passages of impasto and subtle reflections across the water give the relatively intimate work considerable depth and atmosphere.

The reverse retains the handwritten inscription “OVENS RIVER MYRTLEFORD”, identifying the location and adding an appealing connection to north-east Victoria.

While further biographical details for the artist have not presently been confirmed, the quality of the work suggests a competent and experienced painter.

Presented in its attractive vintage frame, this is a lovely piece of Australian regional art ready to display.
