Mini Story or Hook
Published in 1938, Our South Africa: Past and Present by C. Graham Botha is a fascinating combination of South African history and the cigarette-card collecting tradition of the period.
Throughout the book are colourful cigarette cards mounted into designated spaces alongside the historical text, maps and illustrations. Subjects include important figures from the history of exploration and settlement, including Johan van Riebeeck, Vasco da Gama and Prince Henry the Navigator, together with historical maps charting the development of southern Africa.
Importantly, all of the cigarette cards are present, making this an appealing complete example for collectors of cigarette cards, tobacco ephemera, Africana and South African history.
