An impressive original aviation painting by renowned Australian artist Ray Honisett, depicting a gathering of classic de Havilland Tiger Moth biplanes at a rural airfield.
The composition centres on a yellow Tiger Moth numbered “04”, with ground crew attending to the aircraft while another biplane passes overhead. Honisett captures the atmosphere and openness of the airfield beautifully, combining finely observed aviation detail with a broad blue sky, low clouds and sunlit grassland.
Signed and dated 1989 at the lower left, this generously proportioned work would make a striking statement piece for an aviation enthusiast, collector, office, study or commercial interior.
The painting is presented in a substantial timber frame with a linen-style slip and gold-toned inner detailing, ready to display.

In 1988, he completed a series of sixteen aviation paintings commissioned by the McDonnell Douglas Corporation as a Bicentennial gift to the Australian people. His work is represented in important national collections, including the Australian War Memorial and the Powerhouse Collection, which has described him as one of Australia’s leading aviation artists.
