Mini Story or Hook

A great piece of Australian retail history from an era when Coles sold considerably more than groceries.

This characterful vintage captain’s chair was made in Japan and imported into Australia by G.J. Coles & Coy Ltd, with the original importer’s stamp still visible underneath.

Believed to date from around the 1970s, it combines traditional Windsor-inspired styling with Japanese manufacture, featuring a shaped solid timber seat, turned spindle construction, sweeping arms and a distinctive broad crest rail with integrated handhold.

Today it works beautifully as a desk chair, occasional chair, reading chair or statement piece in a vintage-inspired interior.
