Mini Story or Hook
A striking and remarkably substantial piece of vintage cobalt blue art glass, weighing an impressive 2.54 kg despite standing only approximately 25 cm tall.
The vase has a beautifully simple modernist form, with a rounded ovoid body rising to a short neck and an exceptionally broad, thick rolled rim. Its deep cobalt glass changes dramatically according to the light, ranging from an almost inky navy to brilliant electric blue where light passes through the heavy glass.
Subtle irregularities, bubbles and evidence of hand working add character and are consistent with individually produced glass rather than lightweight moulded decorative ware.
The maker has not been identified. While the form has similarities to various European and international studio and decorative glass traditions of the later 20th century, we have deliberately not attributed it to Murano, Scandinavian or another specific glassworks without supporting marks or provenance.
A wonderfully sculptural piece that displays beautifully on its own.
