A striking example of late 20th-century Czech art glass, this substantial hand-worked vase combines a deep smoky blue-green body with dramatic opaque white glass inclusions concentrated through its lower section.

The design is attributed to Ladislav Paleček for the Škrdlovice glassworks in Czechoslovakia, with strong similarities to Paleček’s 8114 series introduced in 1981. Documented examples from this series use coloured glass with white opal-glass elements incorporated into the hot glass, creating the distinctive layered effect seen here.

Škrdlovice became internationally recognised for expressive, individually hot-worked glass created by some of Czechoslovakia’s leading post-war glass designers.

With its generous rounded body, narrow neck and subtly flared lip, this is a beautiful standalone decorative piece and an appealing addition to a collection of Czech or European studio glass.
