Vintage Jean Atkins Australian Studio Pottery Mugs – Set of 4 | Hand-Thrown Stoneware

A wonderful matched set of four pieces of Australian studio pottery by Jean Atkins, combining the individuality of hand-thrown ceramics with the rich, earthy glazes characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century studio pottery.

Each mug has been individually wheel-thrown, with the maker's hand still evident in the subtle variations of form, throwing rings and glaze. The beautifully rounded bodies are finished in a deep olive-brown glaze, shifting from warm chocolate and bronze tones to almost black in places. Under changing light, the glaze develops particularly attractive lustrous and subtly iridescent highlights.

The underside carries the incised signature of Jean Atkins, identifying the maker.

Atkins was an Australian artist and studio potter associated with Victoria.
