Mini Story or Hook
A wonderfully characterful piece of Australian working history, this vintage L. Kennett Ladders (Vic.) “Light House Step” No. 3 retains the kind of original trade markings that are increasingly difficult to find.
Built as a practical working step ladder rather than a decorative object, it features substantial timber construction, ribbed wooden treads, folding A-frame design, metal hardware and rope stays. The numerous surviving factory stencils give it particularly strong industrial character.
The markings include “L. KENNETT LADDERS (VIC.)”, “LIGHT HOUSE STEP”, the number “3”, together with further specification markings including “WEST HEIDELBERG” and a telephone number appearing as “PHONE 45-1224”.
Today it would make a great display piece for a vintage workshop, retail space, photographic studio or industrial-style interior — particularly appealing to collectors of early Australian trade and workshop equipment.

This is a genuine vintage wooden ladder showing considerable evidence of its original working life.
* Original maker and product stencil markings remain clearly visible in several locations.
* Timber displays expected age-related marks, scratches, knocks, wear and variations in colour.
* Treads show wear consistent with genuine use.
* Some edges and corners have small chips and losses.
* Original-style metal fittings and hardware remain present.
* Rope stays are present but show significant age and wear.
* Green-painted metal locking/folding hardware remains fitted.
* No attempt has been made to heavily restore or refinish the ladder, helping retain its appealing aged industrial character.
* Due to its age, this item is offered as a vintage collectable/display piece only and is not represented as complying with current ladder or workplace safety standards. It should not be relied upon for climbing or working at height.
The wear and surviving stencil markings are very much part of the appeal of this piece.
