Vintage Ornate Cast Brass Rococo Swing Dressing Table Mirror – 51cm

There is something wonderfully theatrical about a traditional dressing-table mirror, and this impressive vintage example certainly makes a statement.

Standing approximately 51cm tall, the mirror features an oval tilting glass surrounded by an elaborate pierced frame of scrolling foliate decoration. The frame sits upon an equally ornate cast pedestal base with three broad decorative feet, creating a distinctly Rococo and Victorian Revival appearance.

The metal is non-magnetic and shows warm golden tones where the darkened surface has naturally worn, consistent with cast brass or a similar copper alloy. Its wonderfully aged patina has been retained rather than polished away, giving the piece considerable character.

Stylistically, the mirror is consistent with European—and particularly Italian—decorative dressing mirrors produced during the mid-20th century, although no maker’s mark or country-of-origin mark has been identified. We therefore prefer to leave the precise manufacturer unattributed.

Condition

Good vintage condition with age-related wear throughout.

The metalwork displays substantial natural darkening, oxidation and patination, with warmer brass-coloured metal visible in areas of wear. These variations form part of the character and appearance of the piece and have intentionally not been polished away.

The mirror glass shows some age-related marks and imperfections. The rear retains an older reddish-brown backing board.
