About:

This beautifully grounded studio pottery bowl showcases a deep, lustrous tenmoku glaze with warm iron tones breaking naturally around its rim, reflecting the natural landscape from which its materials have been drawn.

Tenmoku is a high-iron ceramic glaze that originated in China's 'Jian' ware during the Song Dynasty. It is a renowned style that creates deep, glossy black or dark brown finishes with unique after-effects. It is a rich and beautiful display of earthy colours and unique tones.

This, alongside the low, wide form, delivers a warm yet understated confidence, allowing the movement and depth of the glaze to take centre stage, and thus allows the piece to stand out among any collection or in any room with ease.

Signed “ST” to the base, this incredible piece reflects the mid-century studio pottery tradition, where form, fire, and material were valued over uniformity. It is a timeless piece suited to both display and everyday practicality.
