About:
This beautifully tactile vintage studio pottery bowl is a standout in any collection; showcasing the hallmarks of late 20th-century handmade ceramics. Namely those which used earthy materials, organic forms, and a strong emphasis to nature.
The flowing vine and leaf relief encircling the rim has been individually applied by hand, giving the piece depth, movement, and a distinctly artisanal character by it's maker, whose only mark is an incised ‘C’ on the base. This indicates an unidentified individual potter rather than commercial, and therefore giving it a more personal flair rather than a traditional mould-based production.
Finished in a softly speckled cream glaze, this pieces iron flecks and subtle tonal variations speak to high-temperature firing and traditional stoneware techniques.
It is a wonderful example of functional pottery that is just as suited to display as it is to everyday use in any domestic household.
