About:

This beautifully balanced studio pottery vessel is a strong example of mid-to-late 20th century craft pottery, where form, glaze and restraint take centre stage. Whether Australian or originating elsewhere, this piece holds a unique and beautiful reflection of the natural environment around it, and makes excellent use of its glaze to create a lined; naturally emerging form; suitable for any environment and collection.

These pieces were also known as 'Salt Pigs,' used for storing salt in kitchens or in other dining room environments. However, its versatility means that it could hold whatever was needed.

The rounded body, subtle throwing rings and side aperture suggest a potter working confidently with closed forms rather than purely functional wares.

Overall, this is a quietly striking piece that works equally well as a sculptural object, salt-pig vessel, storage, or minimalist floral vessel.
