About:

This beautifully tactile vintage studio pottery mug is a signed piece by Taggerty Pottery, a distinctive yet small artisan pottery studio located in Taggerty, Victoria, Australia. Although no maker is attributed beyond the company, the two primary makers were Glenys Hazelman and Robert Vandergragt, renowned for making their stoneware functional and reflective of the wider Australian landscape.

This piece showcases the companies warmth and individuality, with durable, high quality stoneware which would be suitable in any collection or household, along with the famous earthy, natural and rustic glazes and textures which became hallmarks of Australian pottery in the late 20th Century.

The form is classic and functional, with the surface decoration featuring bold, hand-painted geometric motifs in terracotta, soft blue, and natural stone tones. The glaze has developed a rich, speckled patina through firing, giving the piece depth, texture, and unmistakable handmade character.

This incredible piece serves as a wonderful example of late 20th-century Australian studio pottery, with it being equally suited to daily use or on display and as a conversational piece. It's a reminder of the companies long, enduring legacy, and the rustic, earthy textures of Australia.
